Our Founder’s Story
As the founder of Ivy Languages International, I would like to personally welcome you. My commitment to effective language learning comes from my own experience immigrating to the United States 40 years ago. Arriving here as the oldest of five children with a single mother, none of us spoke English. It was a significant struggle for all of us, especially as I balanced school and work to help support my family.
The difficulty I faced—falling asleep in class due to exhaustion and the language barrier, and struggling with basic communication at my job—made me realize the vital role language plays in survival and building a better future. I eventually had to make an immense effort, including studying for the TOEFL and intentionally practicing English with friends, to succeed. My younger siblings learned more quickly, but for those of us working and navigating a new country, it required immense personal dedication.
This journey fueled my desire to create a program that truly helps students learn a new language effectively. I founded Ivy Languages International specifically to provide the necessary tools and environment for effective language acquisition, avoiding the pitfalls I experienced.
To ensure the highest quality of instruction at Ivy Languages International, I spent years researching the best instructional methods, including TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling), and traveled to Spain and Central America to study linguistic differences. I further dedicated myself to language acquisition by taking the rigorous C1 DELE exam from the Cervantes Institute.
After 21 years of teaching, my dream has come true with the founding of Ivy Languages International. At Ivy, our teachers share a passion for inspiring students to have fulfilling language experiences. We are a family that supports one another, and we are incredibly excited for you to be a part of this mission.
